adjustment of previous gates

these gates need adjusting to much bigger size

they need to be adjusted by 10" either side and im thinking its best to add on at the hinge side of these to get what is wanted by using 10mm bar to gain the extra size and either a round bar in the space or just using the 10mm bar

the round pins to be ground off and reused but i do have the adjustable ones and pins to go on the posts

im not so sure the adjustment would be better within the middle as more ackward to get it right

Extend the hinge ends and replace with new hinge pins etc.

You could leave it at the height it is so the extensions are higher than the rest of the gate and this would make it look more like a designed feature than an addon.

Done the same task a few times over the years when people widen their drives.

It might sound a bit crazy but i would cut each gate in half and stretch them in the middle.

They won't look right adding 10' each side.

well ive done them and here they are been done by an arc welder sip 90

I would have carried the infill bar right to the top but that's probably just a personal choice thing, they certainly don't look a botched job like many extended gates end up being.

further more to these gates

ive been asked to build a sliding bar gate post as im still a newbie ive made it clear that i am welding with an arc welder is not my thing.

i have advised them to get there son doing this not me but ive ended up doing it so heres what i have been doing

i was welding 10mm to 10mm plate steel the sip did pretty well some joints i got a nice lovery run on them the lower one i failed with however the first pass i got a really good weld in the v joint the second pic is the second run over each joint the other side looks like crap so need to grind some off and run over it again

the other side a plate has been welded so can be locked both sides when complete that bar runs along the low wall but im putting in a roller bar on the wall so one person can open it on there own instead of half push go to top and pull it the rest of the way

i think ive done ok but more practice is needed ive also been welding with esab rods sometimes they are ackward to start arcing so ive found

Ok you need some work on your stick.welding but first off you are going to have lighting up issues when the paint insulates the flow
Remove the paint first!

There is nothing wrong with esab rods at all
What are they though? Type. Size and what are you dialing in at?
