Adjustable Spanner Jaw Repairs.

A quick question.
How would members repair this damaged to a old adjustable spanner.




I know it is not worth spending time, effect and materials on this old set. But curiosity has bit me and I want to make a point that abuse of tools cost money.

The jaws can be removed.

May be if we start informing club members their abuse cost more that "Just buying a new one"

Mill or file the jaws flat again.

I would forge it.

Then, shortly after, I would probably wish I hadn't.

I'd dab a bit of hard facing over it and grind back... nothing too hard though, a 350hv or something if that's what's kicking around.

Plan A.
Hard face it as you say. Then machine back.

The tool will not be going back into general use. There is a name stamp and New York Stamped on the fixed jaw.

Plan B. Has any one got anymore ideas?

file it its probably soft steel marked like it is . if it is just build it up with a weld and grind it back

It ended up being "Hard faced" for a tin of Hero's chocolates and a local Agri repair place.

I was not there when it was done, so no pictures or details of the welding.



As it was returned to me.



Dressed back looking good.

So I harden and temped it.



The adjustable is now being painted.

Finished.

Both jaws "Hard Faced" and dressed back.
I hardened and tempered the jaws my self and the handle was cleaned up and sealed with beeswax and oil.

I asked a friend to dress the threaded part.


Yes, over the top for a old tool.
But I had fun, others had fun.
A bit of history was saved and now is back in use.
