Adhesives expiry date

How long (if any) after the expiry date would you think adhesive would still be good to use?

This particular one is a Crestabond MMA based structural adhesive. There is 1 year between when it was made and the expiry.

Some of it starts to cure In the tube, beyond that who can tell how well it will still work

Depends what your doing with it also. If it's for your self and nothing critical then try it and see. But if it's a job where structural properties are required best o get some new stuff

As Snooper highlights most stuff does tend to go off after a while

I'm still using some PVA that I've had over 10 years and I think it's got better with age, like a fine whisky

I think PVA is quite tolerant, ive got some vintage stuff too. However some of these new fancy adhesives don't age very well. I bought some moisture cure Gorilla glue to keep for those just in case jobs. Bottle was unopened and the day I needed found that it had set rock solid

thanks, it's an exact date on the tube....obviously no point asking the manufacturers as they're not going to say something out of date is OK!

I just wonder if it's more like meat expiry date (that you pretty much pay attention to) or biscuits/chocolate expiry dates (more room for interpretation)

I've got some Loctite thread lock from 1983 and it still does exactly what it says on the tin.

It's one of many which were binned periodically according to the 'use by' date imposed on incoming batches by our QA dept.

Mind you, being originally used to retain critical assemblies in civil aviation applications, I don't have a problem with that approach.....

it doesn't degrade I have a few bottles and it works fine
