Adhesive to attach peep sight to an air rifle.

A lad i shoot with has an old sheridan pump up air rifle, he wants to attach a peep sight to the receiver , but doesn't want to drill and tap it as he wants to keep it original. Is there a loctite adhesive that can attach the sight (steel) to the receiver (brass) with a very strong bond ? I have only ever used the threadlock type adhesives.

epoxy would work - the metals would have to be VERY clean, de-greased, and then roughened slightly.

test double sided tape-I use to fix emblems/badges etc to motorcycle tanks etc, it can be removed with care (hot air gun) and the old rifle would still be original, I trim the excess off with a new scalpel blade (xacto knife), if trimming off on the actual job, do not pull the blade across, rock it on the tape to avoid marking the job.HTH.

Silver solder would be the traditional way of doing it, but double sided tape is what I would go with. If you're sure you won't need to remove it then something like 3M VHB tape would be the thing to use.

i would agree with trying the double sided tapes first and foremost - if they dont work and the sight falls off... you can always move up to something that leaves more residue.

sikaflex is absolutely awesome, ive just stuck the solar panel on a mates camper van with it - phoned him when he got to cornwall to make sure it was still on there and he said absolutely no problems -

as with all adhesives, like has been said before, clean, degrease and roughen, but also - you might want to prep the areas to be adhesived with a little heat, then make sure theyre clamped solid (or if its tape, perhaps a few wraps of electricians tape round the whole thing, to hold it tight) becaus all adhesives have their cure time, and will often cure better at a moderate temperature than left out in the shed.

just my two cents, but a little warmth will make it stick better whatever it is
