Additional Training??

I'm a self employed coded welder and do the occassional site work for which i had to apply for a CSCS card, a Safety Passort card, an IPAF card and a pasma card. On some sites they won't even let you in unless you've passed and have the appropriate cards

I think thats all i need but have i left any out?? is there any others worth doing that you may know about??

you might have to prove compantacy to mount abbrasive wheels. and have a gas safety ticket

I think the requirements vary from site to site as you probably realise, the three I can think of which I have heard commented on more than once are:

Save a life, Basic risk assessment and Confined space awareness.

The save a life is a 'nice to have' the other two I know have been asked for or training given prior to starting.

Thanks Guys, A mate of mine works fpr a company who have just finished a large steelwork project down south but they had a few onsite issues, His company sent him down to try and put the matter right and they wouldn't let him on site, as he had no CSCS card and no IPAF card

Been looking at doing my basic offshore training but the Helicopter escape training including HUET, which is part off it worries me as i'm not a very good swimmer, and cant imagine myself doing this..

No swimming involved; when you're wearing a steamer suit about all you can do is lie on your back and flap your legs a bit. The niggly bit is not panicking and getting out of the chopper before the safety diver decides you're drowning and drags you out.

Thanks, I'll bear the panicking bit in mind Do you have oxygen for when your in the water or part of those suits??? or do you just hold your breath

Strictly holding your breath. Bear in mind it's for your own wellbeing; if you go down in a chopper your survival odds are poor, so everything you can do to improve them is worthwhile. Also the trainers want you to pass, it's not in their interest to have people go away either empty handed or traumatised(not to say they give it away free, you need to meet a minimum standard); follow the instruction and you'll be fine.

A couple of our guys have to keep the full offshore survival/chopper cert. valid as we (they) do pipeline inspections on rigs, FPSOs etc.
One of them can't swim but he's a monster rock climber, so if they come down at the base of a cliff he should be OK!
