Adding Dinse Earth Connector to Clarke 150TE

Hi all,

I’ve searched the various ‘euro conversion’ threads for the answer to this… but to no avail.

I’m changing/uprating the earth cable on my Clarke 150TE, so thought I’d add a dinse (/dinze?) connector whilst I was at it; it appeared to be a simple mod until I came across the connection between the solid copper choke on the transformer, and the earth cable itself. The factory fitted option appears to be a crimp fit onto the cable, with the other end bonded onto the solid copper core coming from the transformer.

My question for people that have already done this mod, is how did you connect the transformer choke to the stud on the back of the dinse connector? I can’t see how to do it, except by reusing a small length of the ropey thin cable that’s there.... which isn't ideal as it's pretty tired.

Any help/pointers/abuse very much appreciated!!

As above - generally the bit inside the machine is in the best condition so just use that. If it's terrible then there's a member here who used a copper pipe to form a clamp on the winding. As pdg says you can get crimps in a variety of size so you'll be able to get one that fits.

Any chance of a picture to show the guts?

when I was changing the cable on my 151te, I ended up making a connector from 10mm copper that was soldered into my new cable and the clamped to the choke using grub screws

I'm doing a similar mod to my oxford 180-1 mig,got fed up with the 1m earth return,so having to pull the unit closer to the work,so a 3m cable has been ordered with dinze socket and plug 35-50,this i hope will make it easier for when moving the unit from A-B ie the van
