I have a full on house alarm system on mine two bell boxs and dead locks o yes and him seems to do the job ok for me

In 1980 on a NEEBS security course we were shown pictures of two dogs that a landlord kept bragging about. That nobody would ever get past his two male Rotweilers that ran about freely in his pub when he was out . He came in one afternoon after doing his regular shopping resupply trip to find both of them nailed to the inside of the back door with carving knives & forks . I won't tell you how it was done just to say a dog is definitely not a very reliable anti theft device if thieves are happy to do that .

It's quite easy to shut them in a room too , especially if the door closes to the jamb when they push on it by using distractions elsewhere .

I've heard some pretty horrible stuff about guard dogs being killed in horrible ways

but... if you're home they just need to make noise to wake you up, or the noise for them to be enough to scare anyone away... guess it depends what you have that they want to take and what it's worth to them

I've recently been looking at security on the shed I'm doing up as the door open onto the road, OK its a quiet road in the Costwolds but we have been having a bit of an issue with sheds getting done over lately.. I got as far as drawing up a steel frame to go inside the existing grotty old wooden doors when I realised it would be fairly straightforward to put a portcullis inside the doors and now I cant shake the idea...

I still have an up and over door but with strengtheners and pins into the door frames. So would almost be taking frames out with the doors.

Also recently been put onto Latham security doors and put one to add further security with 19point locking system.
Anything to slow them down is a bonus in my eyes.

They would have to be damn determined thieves to take on a home owner and a dog! I think most dog owners would accept a loss of property but hurt the dog and it’s very bad news for them. Let the twelve judge afterwards, it wouldn’t matter.

To be honest he is not agressive but has a growl and bark that travels for miles and he looks off putting. I also have a nifty little battery operated wireless infa red passive that operates a reciver / chime in the house, got it off Flee bay for about £12 3 years ago fantastic bit of kit, 135 meters away chimes loudly if you activate the very discrete passive so if anyone is snooping around at night you know

Keeping the dogs out of the equation is easy if you know how .. but I'm not going to divulge it on line incase someone tries it .

Fitted them front and back on mine, absolute garbage. Ended up getting a huge discount from them they came so bad. They started to rust in no time and the welding is shocking. Once I saw how quickly the big red key opened one on an industrial unit raid I think you're far better off with a solid composite door for which they're starting to stihl saw their way into them they're so resistant to impact opening.
