Adapting regulator to 4mm - will this be OK?

From what I understand regulators have 3/8 BSP male outlets, so to adapt down to 4mm OD pipe would this work OK?

It's a touch cheaper at £4.33 delivered than the adapters with a length of hose, and since I'm fitting a new 4mm pipe to the welder after melting it accidentally, I could use a longer one and go straight to the regulator on the bottle?

Sorry ,I did mean to reply yesterday ,the regulator is a 3/8 male thread but this relies on a taper seat (like an olive ) ,so your ebay link

Ah, darn, ordered the bits from eBay last night. I assumed the 3/8 would be taper thread but in hindsight it does make more sense for it to be parallel to take a spigot fitting with seat. As it's the low pressure side I'll try it with PTFE and see if it leaks (I do a fair bit of steel pipework plumbing good to 10 bar and the PTFE works great, but that is tapered male into parallel female).

Ah, given this just has hose clamped over barbs and clearly is adequate for the pressures involved, I feel quite confident that a bit of PTFE will be fine for sealing the thread.

However, as you observe, since I'm paying for the gas careful checking of the joint would be very prudent. Much easier to let it leak out than put it back in

I say almost because the outlet thread isn't quite 1/4" BSP male. But, it's close enough for a bit of PTFE tape to take care of. I've been using it like this for a while, no leaks.

Really do like the flow meter on the regulator, very easy to set up.

If I need the bottle further from the welder then I've got some spare 4mm nylon pipe and a push fit joiner.
