18550s have both been around for a while and been dangerous for a while...when unused to go lamping my red torches were powered by 18650s and if you weren't incredibly careful about where you got them from they would catch fire on first charge

Any 18650 battery with fire in the name were ones to be avoided. I don’t buy from EBay, tend to buy mine from reputable dealers. Pay a bit more but you get genuine brands

I had a truck satnav that did that a few summers ago, worrying part was I was asleep in the truck at the time, think I was in fleet services at the time on one of the hottest nights of the year and my air con had packed up, woke up to the screen of the satnav hanging off and the battery puffed up

I had a laptop battery do that, it's under the touchpad so I felt it, it distorted the laptop quite badly. I had to go out for a while but didn't want it in the house, so I left it out in the garden until I got back. I took the battery out and the laptop regained shape and I used it on the mains power supply for months after that.
