ACTIVE CARBON FILTER - SPIRITUS PRO AIR FED HELMET

I have just bought the R-TEch Spiritus pro Helmet which has helped me no end seeing what I am doing and as I weld in a small low environment I wanted the air fed Helmet.

My only problem is after less than 3 hours of welding the carbon filter is dirty and I have the audio warning it is no longer giving clean air, I was completely shocked to go on R Tech site to find

they want £2.95 for each filter and when I went to check out the cheapest postage option was over £7 so for 5 filters it is nearly £24, does anybody know of an alternative that will fit this helmet.

My next purchase was going to be a R Tech welder but this has put me off R Tech a bit, any help really appreciated

Where exactly does the filter unit sit, it isn’t very clear from the website and I don’t know much about these. Is it clipped onto your belt? Any chance you’re wearing it while grinding?

Is there a date on the filter, and how was it wrapped when it arrived in the box with the new mask? I’d expect new filters to be sealed as (I think) carbon will saturate in the natural environment in a given amount of time - say the filter was pre-assembled for a new mask and the box was left on the shelf for 12 months?

@Parm call me out if I’m talking rubbish.

I’d try a new filter and see if it lasts longer and keep it away from dust.

Well if it makes you feel any better the R=tech replacement is probably the cheapest out there. A quick look around shows some scary prices for carbon filters and as for the postage, why buy just one pack of filters, get a couple, postage is the same so saving in the long run. Keep the filters in a sealed bag though because they are active carbon.

If your filter is getting blocked that quickly you need to look at exhaust ventilation to remove welding fume
