Acid...which one?

Hi i quite often refurb wheels in my spare time, i was wondering if anyone can tell me what acid is used that the big firms dip the wheels in to remove paint and dirt. also if you can point me in the right direction in obtaining some. many thanks H

It won't be acid, it'll be a solvent. Door strippers use caustic soda, but this will attack aluminium.

they use phenol but u wont be able to buy it. its nasty stuff a pinprick on skin will burn i had a 50 gallon drum of it . got rid of it 2 dangerous

That sounds scary to use. ive used nitromors before but this is a long proses.
