ACF50 in aerosol

I am going to give ACF50 snake oil a try, doing a couple of test pieces, but also on my lathe and pillar drill which live in a lean to at the back of the house, which is open to the elements each end.

Looking at various reviews, it seems that application can be a bit problematic, as the supplied pump bottle delivers a slug, rather than a fine mist. Messing about with rags and brushes is not going to get it into small spaces or right into corners.

I see they supply it in aerosol form, so has anyone used it this way ? I want it to produce a fine mist, or does this dispense a spurt also ?

If I decide its any good, I will either buy a dedicated spray gun, or maybe try an airless electric spray gun, but don't want to at this stage.

Aerosols are not the same for many products. WD40 is quite a bit thicker and much better for preventing rust when bought in a 5L pack and applied with a trigger pump dispenser. I suspect the same will be true of ACF50.

theres several youtube vids showing how the aerosols are poor , i wouldn't bother

get the liquid one and brush it on if you dont have a compressor , a little goes a long way

and watch out for amazon seller scratching off the expired use by date , mine was a year out of date so now he scratches it off lol

Does it matter though? I doubt it!

I bought an aerosol but it doesn't aerosolise the medium much if at all. I've since cobbled up an air assisted blowgun where you squirt it into a pipe as the air runs through, which works much better, but I intend to try a cheap airbrush kit at some point to achieve the same.

I mainly use it for protecting adjustable coilover threads on a daily driver. It is good stuff IME, so worth persevering with.

The elixir of life ,,, I use it a lot , on everything and for everything and love it ,,, I have it in pump oil cans as a wd40 alternative , works as a cutting and tapping fluid too but for most things I use a dpf gun and mist things that way ,,, aerosols are too expensive , I buy it by the gallon works out cheaper , a gallon lasts a long time , even round land rovers .
the only thing is ,,, if you get it on your hands and go for a pee , be very carful ,,,

its caused my penis to grow to nine inches ,,, [ well something did ]

or was it my nose ...

What does the acf50 smell like? I quite like WD40 but that GT85 stuff gives me an asthma attack! And I don't have asthma

ACF 50 smells lovely, a bit like engine honing oil.

the way i use it alot of the time is a lint free rag, soaked in ACF50 in a ziplock bag. a quick wipe down on anything, tools, machinery, engine parts etc, its really excellent at preventing rust in my opinion.

Let it sit in a bowl of hot water for five minutes before you use it, it sprays luvverly then.

XCP Clear is what I use on my bike and now on the lathe/mill etc,
I bought the aerosol cans and they work well at atomising it but cant say how ACF works but I would imagine the same.
I now have bought the 5l bulk container of it, not cheap but will last me a long time, I use a spray gun on the compressor for the bike adjusted to a really fine mist but for lathe and mill I just use one of the pump action spray bottles that you get and it works well enough although much heavier spray.

smells about as nice as it could for such a product , non offencive to me and the mrs hasnt ever commented

I am concerned about the "use by" date though, as I am not sure how long it will take to use it up ......... might be years. But then again.

I want to try it on alloy engine blocks and gearboxes too. And radiator and intercoolers. Hopefully will stop that salty corrosion to some degree.

Other question though, does it attract dirt ?

It clearly has hallucinogenic properties then ?

The aerosol is crap unless you heat it up first. Put it in hot water for 5/10mins prior to use and it will actually spray like an aerosol should. Even in the middle of summer I still have to use this approach unless I just want it to drip out the nozzle....

If you take a WD40 aerosol can which has run out of gas, but still has liquid in, and punch in a hole to get the liquid out, you actually get a liquid which separates out in to two layers. If you give it a good shake, it will (temporarily) form an emulsion. I can only guess as to why it's made in this way, but assume it has some benefit (perhaps helps to make it more sprayable?). Is WD40 in 5L packs just one single liquid? I'm not familiar with ACF50.

yeah it attracts filth , i wash it down in summer if it bothers me

i use it on the alloy bits and yes its stopping them going white /furry in the bad weather

ACF-50 is extremely good stuff indeed.
I tend to give a light spray from the hand-trigger bottle, then swidge it around with a flux-brush, which works very well on my complement of machine tools.....
