Acetone supplier locally.

Obviously no one will know my local area but what sort of places would I go to be able to buy acetone to clean aluminium before Tig welding it. (or is there anything better to use??)


Is the nail varnish remover sold in super drug suitable for a quick fix (if you excuse the pun) lol

I can get it online but shipping costs are stupidly high.

Try paint suppliers, it's pretty much the same as cellulose thinners and nail varnish remover, but much cheaper to buy it by the gallon can!

Most of that price is shipping its only £4 collected. BUT my main issue with ebay is that its friday and I want to use it over the weekend. If nail varnish remover is the same stuff I dont mind paying 79p from super drug for 50ml as I only have a few joints.

Got none by us. I thought somewhere like screwfix or tool station might do it but it seems not.

Nail polish remover should be fine as long as it is acetone based. Not all nail polish remover contains acetone,so check that it does.

Would also test it out on a scrap piece before using it on the bits you need to do. Just to make sure it wont course problems.

Its amazing how difficult it is to find locally.................BUT I guess thats the same for most things now.

Ok a bit more info. What wire brush do I need? IS this ok?? Short softgrip handle with hammerhead nail set. Stainless steel criss cross bristles remove paint twice as fast as a standard wire brush.

or is brass better what does not contaminate the aluminium??

I bought stainless steel pan scrubbers from Sainsbury's to get me out of a 'lost stainless steel wire brush at the weekend' shaped hole. The wife freaked when she found them 'You are not going near my pans with those ........', just make sure you get the ones with out soap.

There is certainly some difficulty in getting acetone today, three paint suppliers down the road myself and using thinners
