Hi all,
I am on the look out for a tig set this year as I keep getting asked about jobs that I have to sub out due to my lack of experience. I am booking in with Wilkinson star soon for a days training, more so to bring me upto speed with how to set the damn machines more than using them.
When buying anything I always get my head stuck into my iPad doing as much research as I can to see which is best for my budget, but having no real knowledge of tig welding I don't know what sounds good or not. At the minute I look at the price and assume the dearer the tig the better. Is this the case?
I have seen a few sets such as thermal arc, r tech, and parweld. I don't mind spending on the right set and have a budget of around £1500 but yesterday I went to speak to the guy who services and repairs my mig sets on advice and he told me that a cheap Chinese set has just as much chance of being a good machine as a dear one. He pointed out that the Giant wsme tig sets are worth a punt and at £349 would it matter if it broke after 12-24 months use! He also mentioned Technical Arc being a good brand and I have to say that their website looks impressive yet there isn't a section in welders and welding machine section?
This has thrown me completely now some help and advice would be greatly received
Thanks
