Yeah you put a shelf up and use the spirit level and her indoors says its wonky,and you know she's right when you stand back and have a look.....go figure that one.

Stick a marble/ball bearing on it. That will tell you if it's on the p##s. Then sand a flat on the marble and do it again in front of the misses. "See it is straight"

valve shims are my favorite I can go through a box once i have measured a few, and i can tell within a few thou whether it is worth measuring it , it is a pain having to measure each one.
I was going through a massive box at the engine mans shop one day his son looked and said what are you doing, I replied, sorting the shims, into groups, how? he said, by feel I replied, he said F### off I threw him a shim and said there you are thats in the such such range he measured it it was bang on did three one after the other he walked off mumbling.
