Wow mate being a roofer this sends a shiver down my spine any fall from ladders..your very lucky there fella and ive got to say it but i did point out the way you had them tressels perched on bits of wood too anyway i hope you are not in too much dis-comfort and make a full recovery

The ladders are not dangerous its the users that are...ladders are thousands of years old in there design and safer than flying in an aircraft as the body count will tell thee

I have to clean out the gutters here before winter sets in with a vengence, but not looking forward to getting the ladders out to do it. I'm always afraid it'll all go a bit Frank Spencer !

Nice view though A friend of mine was pointing over the top of a downstairs window from a step ladder and fell no more than a couple of feet, broke his pelvis and collar bone and got a trip in the air ambulance which terrified him as he is scared of heights. I still get up the ladder to clear the gutters and clean the upstairs windows a couple of times a year but at 68 it's getting a bit more of a job. Get back up the ladder before you get too apprehensive is all I can say.

Am I the only one with holes in the fascia and bargeboards of the house where I've screwed in a vine eye to tie off my ladder when painting then? I like dayglo orange Fasty straps for tie off duties.

I really do feel your pain. I’ve a bruise from ribs to my pelvis on the rhs, and one from back of my thigh to my calf. They itch like hell, looking like dryrot on timber when it has flowered. (Google it)

Pile cream takes the sting out. DO NOT use aerosol coolant

No, my last house had a load of plugs in for vine eyes. Current one has none yet, but will do very soon as I need to get up to the top of the gable end for a bit of maintenance. As well as eyes to stop sideways movement, I usually put a couple in near the bottom to stop the foot of the ladder slipping outwards! Call me soft, but I’m still here.

Ladders aren't dangerous. It's how they're used which is generally the problem. Or, if you're a numpty like me, forgetting there's no top step/platform on those foldable A frame type stepladders, so as you're walking backwards up them, your foot suddenly has nothing underneath it. Probably wouldn't have ended up with the scar if it wasn't for the fact that the nice grassed lawn behind the ladder had a big bloody skip sat on it.

I think I have mentioned this before on here somewhere, a few years ago we were all hauled in for an HS dressing down by a major forestry contractor we worked with, it cost this contractor about 170K to get all involved into several locations countrywide ( hotel pissup ). A major shake up of working practices was in order due to the industry death rate vs the reported incidents stats ( @Parm ,riddor etc). Long story short it appears it's us older git`s that get sloppy and cause injury to ourselves and others

forrestry and agriculture have consistently high levels of accidents. I’m aware of 3 fatal accidents in aboriculture work in the South East. All in the last couple of weeks
