Access to Garage

looking for a little advice, I rent a council garage on a car park about 50 yards from my home, over the last year the parking has become horrendous, and people have started parking in front of the garages, three times now i have had to go knocking the doors in the close some 20+ to try and find out who doesn't have the common sense to realise that people actually have cars in the garages and need access to them, one occasion was when my granddaughter was in hospital and I couldn't get out, so tonight I have written to my MP and the council to see how they can help me, but it would help to know where I stand about getting something done, these days I'm not very confrontational and it is starting to get to me so any advice from you lads and lasses would be very much appreciated, thanks, Chris.

Might be stating the obvious but have you tried putting a sign on your garage door?

I doubt there is anything that you can do directly as it sounds like it's council land, so the best bet is as you've done and report it to them.

There's no effective right of access to something you own, believe it or not, unless you own the ground right in front of it. In your case, I presume that the land in front of it is the council's so it's down to them to enforce whatever restrictions they can.

Hi, As I understand it, it not an offence to deny you access but it is to deny you egress or exit from it. This certainly applies to authorised driveways crossing a path. It might be worth asking the council to confirm this as you pay rent for it otherwise what's the point and what are they proposing to do about it. Can they provide you with a phone number to contact them in the event of a breach? Plus any other awkward questions you can think of.

Thanks Colin, I did put in the contact form to the council what steps I need to take if this happens again, so hopefully they will provide a number or some such thanks, Chris.

thanks I will see what response I get from MP and council, yes a lockable post is out of the question, as the garage is accessed from a public car park.

just bump it as when alarm goes off they will soon come out to sort it if it takes a few bumps to set alarm off that tough

they will either get fed up coming to alarm so will move it or leave it so end the car gets broken into as they ignore the alarm

I've done both blocking my drive trolley jack once and my old grey Fergie on another occasion using a chain on guys towbar

I read somewhere maybe on here that someone jerked a newish jag out of his way with an old 4x4 using a chain wrapped around the jags rear axle!
Apparently it ripped the lot out the back of it!

Years ago a neighbour of ours had his car blocked in by a Mini. He got three of his mates, big lads, to help him shift it while he got out then they put it in the space with the back wheels on top of a 3ft high wall. I'd like to have seen the owner's face when he got back to the car.

Get a few bit of car broken plastic such as wing mirrors or bumpers and scatter them around in front of your garage.....
Also when ever going to your car try and have a pair of beer glass bottomed specs to put on or even a white cane
