Hi all, I've been thinking about curing my need to weld heavy alloy (10mm plate etc) and my old BOC 375 ac/dc transtig tripping my 30a/3phase supply at anything over about 200amp. Due to the limitations on supply Im stuck to 30amp per phase, so I think to get the amperage I need to get a 3 phase tig. Plus the modern set will fit under my arm as opposed to the 600kg of the BOC set, and have all the modern bells and whistles, be squarewave etc. Ive just had to pay someone to do a couple of welds, and, well, it makes my hobby of building bikes a expensive proposition.
I can probably stretch to about £900ish for a replacement set as I can move the set onto someone with a real supply to cover some of the money, and Ive been looking at these welbach german badged and guaranteed but made in china sets. From the specs they want 19a/phase in the supply which suits me just fine.
The main downside appears to be that they need another few hundred euro's spending on them to get a pedal and a watercooler for use above 200amps. Plus side is I *should* still be able to get support in a year or two down the line, but thats not a given, as I bought a reimann plasma set for those reasons and they turned out to be not at all interested in supporting their kit afterwards. I can make a watercooler too fairly easily, just made a remote suds/watercooler setup for my surface grinder and I imagine theyre much the same sort of thing.

Shopriver has the usual 315amp chinese tigs too. Theyve been responsive when i had issues with my rehimann plasma cutter and for consumeables over the years. Plus I'll get hit with import tax on something as big as a tig set from china, especially if it comes DHL as dhl collect the import tax from you regardless if the gov wants it or not. And if it does have issues, the return to seller costs are insane and by which time I wont have a set to cover me while it flys halfway round the world.
For my budget, theres nothing else really is there? Im wary of used stuff as I will have to buy it remote untested so I'll be putting all my faith in the seller, but I'd prefer a used but well known make of better quality but I'm sick of dealing with arthur daley types flogging tat and being brass necked about its issues afterwards.
Anyone had much doings with the welbach stuff? Comments, ideas? I found a review in french and they said it was as good as their main kempi set, but the rod holder and earth clamps were a joke. I can change them no issues if thats it.
