Does anyone know of an add unit that provides HF start and AC from a DC source. So an inverter plus HF ignition. ?
Err yeah if I was using a transformer based power source, thats what id do. All these little MMA and scratch start boxes are switch mode PSU's.Surely if you've got a DC source, by bypassing the diodes you'd get AC?
Then I know nothing, just a guess?
Sorry, didn't read the opening post, and was more thinking add on boxes, duuhh.(me).
I have an old ESAB add on TIG box. It provides hf start but only gives dc if you add it to an a/c welder. Hook it to a dc source and it gives dc. Assuming it works. I've had it years and never got round to making up cables and hooking it to something to test, though it did power up last time I looked!
Sorry, I meant it only give A/C if its hooked to an A/C welder, and D/C if its connected to a D/C welder. D'oh!Sounds like its a rectifier and HF supply then.
