They come with a flat face or an angled face. I had no idea; I literally learned this a few minutes ago. Benchmark Abrasives refers to the flat face as a Type 27 and the angled face as a Type 29. If I had to guess, I would say the angled face is more useful with the guard in place since the guard will not allow you to get the disc completely flat unless you have your grinder hanging off the edge of the work.
