My daughter drives an A180 less than 3 years old.
The other day she asked me to look at the wipers on the car because the drivers side wiper wasn't working. On inspection the whole wiper (& spindle) seemed to have detached. After taking the plastic moulding covering the wiper mechanism off, somewhat amazed at what I found.
The wiper mechanism consists of the motor in a frame & the frame is connected via a steel tube brace to the spindle mechanism which are an aluminium casting. The spindle castings are connected to the steel tube by crimping, in addition the castings are secured to the bulkhead behind by a rubber isolation bush.
The aluminium casting had cracked at the crimp & in addition the welded bolt to the bulkhead had a broken away. Never ever seen a failure quite like it & its a good job it failed at low speed.
The car has been returned to the dealer & photos plus reports have been sent back to the manafacturer.
I’m guessing that the wiper mechanism is not unique to this model.

It looks like a lot of Mercedes have wiper problems with nuts coming loose and shaking the motor out of place. It should be a warranty fix for her.

Similar ideas on most modern cars I think - Alfas suffer from the rubber bush shearing and leaving the whole assembly floating around

I can see it being a product recall
