A *Weird* American Internet Forum Registration

There's a ham radio forum i want to join in the USA. It has spambot protection on the registration page. To prove you are human you must answer this riddle ;

"On a writer's desk is telephone fountain pen Windows 10 cat ham sandwich paper not fish dictionary rose candy. What will be dinner?:"


This is quite true and I have no idea what the answer is. Who's smart?

Apart from the quirky spambot question everything else was normal. I asked a question about a receiver made in the US (the Hammarlund range) but have not had one reply; bit disappointing.

If by play you mean transmit, I'm licenced but haven't been on the air for 20 years? These days I just play around with various bits of ham radio equipment. I was licenced a very long time ago, when 2m AM was absolutely buzzing in just about every part of the UK, whereas it's pretty dead in most parts now. I sometimes think about building an AM rig for 160, 80 or 60m, but never get around to it. Ham radio is just my winter hobby for when it's too cold to go playing cars!

Seems a bit overkill to me for spam prevention. I was getting a lot of spam (despite recaptcha) on the contact form on my website so I added a spambot question. The question is "please write the 4-letter word underneath the motorcycle in the top-left corner of this page". The script currently accepts literally any answer: as long as you type something, the message will get to me (there seem to be two common answers, one of which is right and one which is down to a misinterpretation of "underneath").

Because it's not a standard field, the spambots just leave it blank and the spam is rejected.

4 sin (4x - π/2) + 4 cos (4x - π/2) is the same as
4 sin(4x) - 4 cos(4x) : the π/2 offsets make sin into cos and vice versa (with an appropriate sign change) - note I've swapped the order around.
Differentiate that you get 16cos(4x) + 16sin(4x) : the differentiation turns sin into cos and cos into -sin).
sin(N×2×π) is 0 & cos(N×2×π) is 1 for any integer N.
Therefore 16cos(4x) + 16sin(4x) is 16 if x is 2π
