That's the only problem isn't it.
I did have a funny a few months after fitting it though. One day it just stopped working. Various emails went back and forth between the seller and myself. I thought it was the pickup, they eventually sent me a new tacho head. In the meantime I just happened to turn the magnet round and lo and behold, it started working. It's worked ever since (four or five years now). Bought a pickup for about £3 so now have a spare tacho assembly
@Carl Wilson yes I did that with mine after loosing the supplyed magnet but used black electrical insulation tapeThinking on, I would like to try putting the magnet on using its own magnetism and putting a narrow sleeve of wide bore heat shrink over it just to retain it better. That would be a simple and non invasive method of keeping it in place.
