A tip for transporting gas bottles

I was reading some old threads about this subject. This way i usually do it if the bottle is bigger than 10 litre. take a pallet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EUR-pallet
this type lay it with the channels facing upwards then lay the bottle in the channel that will stop it from rolling around and make it easier to strap down.

It's a fair idea but if at all possible gas bottles should be transported vertical incase there is a leak in the valve

I strap the bottles to the back of my Jeep passenger seat. The last gas shop guy liked it and gave me a discount

On my argon bottle, I made a cart for it. It is basically a square plate for the bottle to sit on with 2 wheels in the back. Then there is 2 vertical pieces of square tubing with a brace/handle across the top. The bottle get strapped to this. Looks much loke a hand dolly.

I transported it laying down. the support keeps it from rolling around and makes it easy to roll around.

If it's gas under pressure it's going to come out whichever way up the cylinder is. I use the tie down points in the boot of the Berlingo and anchor with a couple of straps.

Also if its a liquid gas the volume that can leak as liquid (that will then vaporize) is far grater if laid down that that which can leak as a gas if vertical
