Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the comments etc. - I've been having a think and reading some stuff like LOLER/PUWER etc. and decided it's definitely something I don't want to get seriously involved in.
I could beef it up/start again, puff up the tyres, add a rear weight etc. etc. - but really I think it's a Don't Start From Here job.
If I wanted a 1ton forklift I'd need a bigger tractor, proper forks, beefier welder and lifting gear... hell, I'd be a lot better off just buying a forklift (or a teleporter... er, no, my wife yould kill me ).
I'll keep the forks as they are now, the load's limited by the weedyness of the bracket which is sort of matched by the capacity of the tractor - I know 240kg's is only a large wheelbarrow load, but having a bit of a duff shoulder I couldn't lift it, so it'll be dead handy for me to cart bits of stuff around that don't fit in the bucket.
