A Project, help required

hello folks, Ive got an idea that I'm thinking about and need something made for me.

I need a tube of stainless steel with a nicely formed dome on the end, I suppose a bit like a broom handle but hollowed out. It must have a bore of around 30mm and be around 180 mm long. Oh wall thickness around 1 to 1.5 mm

Not sure If it best made of solid bar bored out or tube with a cap welded on.

Open to your suggestions and beer tokens involved.

Alternatively tube of similar size with machined Perspex dome end cap with perfect fit so diameters of both are same on outside

Length of SS exhaust tube and beat a bit of sheet to the shape you want with a ball pein hammer. Weld together. I will make your project if you will make mine.

Good plan but I don't have a tig welder

Making that out of solid bar will require access to a lathe and some skill to create the radius at the top if its a manual lathe

If the dome doesn't have to be perfect then use some exhaust pipe and cut, fold and weld it. Doesn't need to be TIG but it'd be easier.....

You can buy weld on end caps for stainless steel dairy tube of all sizes. Might have to buy a packet of ten though.

If anyone's wondering why I might have something so random in stock, its because I make these scrapers in varying lengths to reach the centre of wide conveyor belts, the dome just add a nice little touch to the finish of the job, but I'm sure no one really notices it.

You spoil them Paul, they'd get a bit of 16mm bar with an old bit of flat tacked on the end from us

Take a piece of sheet and press the dome, then weld onto a piece of tube and remove signs of the weld?
