Reading data from crashed vehicles is nothing new, however insurance companies only pay for the required independent reports if it's likely to benefit them.

As I understand it - EV's & likely other new cars have the in-built systems to "tell-tales" on its driver back to its Mfr?

When the Rover 827i was launced the Police had some on trial, after a few weeks they found the spot welds failing on the rear suspension turrets, Rover sent a couple of technical bods to investigate, when the police unloaded the boot they worked out the weight of the kit was vastly over the carrying capacity.
