prison is supposed to be a punishment for crimes committed, one of those punishments is the lose of liberty, and it should be the lose of other things that go with being free. Currently prisons probaly have better facilities than a 2 star hotel

I've signed it and I hope it has the desired affect...

however I don't believe that 30,000 signatures is required.

I used to hang around the Common Room on the old Fidonet and we discussed getting laws changed a number of times.

Apparently if just 20 - 30 people wrote to their MPs then it's generally enough to get things moving. Especially if it's a cause such as this where some MPs are looking for something that's relatively easy and they know that it's a vote-winner.

As I see it, the judicial system isn't affected by this petition...

it's not asking for this particular person to be given additional punishment, it's asking for the law to be changed for future convictions and the government will sometimes (*) listen.

(*) There was that muppet Labour MP who went onto Radio Two a couple of years ago stating that people could decide on five possible law changes, then vote on them and he'd propose a Bill, but he chickened out when the vast majority voted to bring back hanging!
