i recently purchased a second hand tig its an old ARC-TEC 180 Ac/DC machine.i know that its 240v as it says on the rear but im confused as to what amps the machine is as when i got it it didnt have a plug on it and the cable is fairly thick so i put a blue caravan plug on it then plugged it into a caravan to 3 pin plug adapter that i have then stuck that into my mains supply.
The machine powers up but when i go to weld i can only get a tiny arc (like the clicker on my gas cooker) the standard household plug has a 13 amp fuse in it and i would have thought that if it tried to draw more current then this would have blown.im 99% sure the machine works as i used it ages ago at the company i got it from but never saw what it was plugged into.im just unsure as to why it wont work so if anyone could shed a little light i would be all ears.
