Edgewick was a name applied by Herberts to factored machines.The first lathe I operated was an Edgewick (if that's the same company) in 1962.

I don't know about today, but when I was in training (1960s) it was the only route to high(er) salaries.Why would anyone wish to go into management?

As in a kicking post?I understand that part, but anyone who's ever had to manage/organise people, even for a brief period, should, if they value their sanity, be thinking: Screw that. You have to deal with the crap from both above & below.
