A good selective weed killer?

Weedkiller questions have been beaten to death on here
A few things come to mind. The strength of the weedkiller for one, there are a lot of weedkillers quoteing the "360" or "480+" concentration but that is only a small part of the whole picture, keeping it on the leaf is another whole science, a lot of folk have had good results using thickeners like washing up liquid or wall paper paste, some spray off a plant then drop a bag over it and tie off at the base. Applications and its economical use is important,spot spray rather than blanket spray, all to easy to get carried away with this stuff. Last is why leave it until its got out of hand

Not really to be fair, well not that I know of, generally we dont want to kill of the ground for 6 months though.

Just for paths and gravel drives.
Great mixed with sugar as well

My FiL used roundup on his lawns. He painted the weeds, he used a pastry brush to paint the poison onto the weeds. Took forever but it was effective.

Anyone know of a weedkiller that will kill Ivy ? I was on the side of the shed between me and next door and the wal was full of it. Spent an hour ripping it down, but its difficult to get at the roots though. Could i chuck a half gallon of diesel on it ?

I have always used the domestic stuff, Verdone/Weedol as a selective weedkiller and ferrous sulphate for moss and 'greening'.

Buy or borrow a power rake/scarifier first and get rid of all the thatch, bulk moss, shallow-rooted weeds etc.

Dig out stuff like dandelions and docks.

But if your 'lawn' is really bad you would be better off killing the lot with glyphosphate and starting again in the autumn.

Or spend hours on Youtube watching all the tutorials - there's lots.

I dug out a few of the more enthusiastic dandelions a few days ago. I may fill the holes with some peaty stuff, when the rain stops and maybe some grass seed.

I used Roundup on the ivy in my back yard when I first moved in. Physically hacked and chopped the bulk of it, then any leaves poking through from the gardens next door I sprayed Roundup every evening. It,worked, they slowly died away.

They do take some killing though, so every month or so I go round and check for stragglers seeking a career comeback.

This was when I first moved in, zero maintenance for 30 years.

Our lawn was a mess with lots of moss, daisies and dandelions, I tried various thing over the years but for the last two yeas used miracle grow feed/week killer and the lawn now looks great.

Im using ROUNDUP or Travex is call differntly in every country they using for Tennis Court or running track ( 400m) they mixing clay with that , no wegetation at all .. _

I drilled the 1” thick stem of the heavy ivy infestation and filled the hole with Roundup last summer. Topped it up every day with a little fresh squirt.

Not sure the long term effects as the neighbours got the message and cleared their side of the fence too not long after.

After my lpg tank was buried I considered sowing my ‘bee bomb’ and keeping that patch as a wild life reserve.

The grass seed has started to grow now, but I think I’ll use some big tubs or pots for my flowers.
