Something like a Raglan can be moved by 2 people (just) and parts are available just like Boxford and Myford. The Myford will still need 2 people to move though as they are heavy, the slightly larger machines say 5x24 do not have a much bigger space envelope and can do that bit more. Saying that if I could get a Myford (ML7 only) for £500 in good nick, I would probably go for it because even if you want to move on to a bigger machine in the future you will never lose money on it if you look after it.

Not everyone has the space or power to run a big lathe.
Nor is everyone into making big parts. You also need to look at the profile of what the user is making. I have been running a Myford for two years after swapping a Chinese lathe for it. It's been fantastic and does everything I need for making my bike parts etc. Yes they often come up over priced but they have good spares support and are highly accurate. Equally you often find great deals. I paid £900 for my Super 7 and that came with pretty much the guys entire workshop.

When bolted down and properly set up they are just as accurate as a Myford (.0005 variation on a 10" two collar test bar) and can be had very cheaply. I found mine 10 miles away for less than the value of its gearbox and chuck.
It can even part off under cross slide power and no the steady rest, QCTP, bits on the tray, and new paint didn't come with it.

I give a toss,I could not use that lathe if you asked me too as that colour would play havoc with my sensitive eyes.....just sayin like,old man.....can't a guy make a complaint without getting flak from the oldies.

Well I'm a so called oldie and I know just what you're saying, I just happened to have some green machinery paint then ran out of it but found some red lurking on a shelf so on that went too. Believe me it's much brighter in real life!
