A bit like a circlip?

What do you call the clips that push on to the end of a shaft, they have no gap so not like a circlip but do a similar job?.

They don't need a groove either, they just rely on friction and the spring in the clip.

I'm on the train going down to the smoke so I thought I would buy all the things you find you need in the workshop over a weekend before I forget. The new Wadkin table saw is in generally good nick apart from a couple of annoying bits. I need to get on and do the kitchen refit with it then I'll take it apart and make sure it's all tickety boo and give it a lick of paint. So I have some of those spring star doo dahs for the annoying handle that is dropping off the rise and fall handwheel and some chimney nut lugs to put the dust cover back on, it had plain nuts before and was a bitch to get off never mind fit. I could cut a groove in the spindle and fit a circlip but tilt handle uses these so thought I would match, also quicker.

Starlocks don't usually fit into a groove whereas Circlips do. You will just get blank looks if you ask for chimney nuts round here, they are called spire clips. We had a pushchair that used to shed the starlocks so I drilled the end of the axle and put a washer on and split pin through it.

Thanks guys, I'm sorted for both.

Spire clips seem to have shallower threads than chimney nuts, the former are just pressed steel. Both good for what I need.

Starlocks are just temporary to stop me losing the handle on the hand wheel until I strip the saw down completely and rebuild it. Kitchen refit now takes priority or I will be wearing my testicles like a bow tie
