74 bug project update

Hi Guys,
Thanks to all the people that helped with my earlier 2 pack paint probs and spray gun.
I eventually got my ebay JGA spray gun replaced for a GTI pro gun (nice of the guy really). Got my other compressor working and an air fed mask.

Anyway, heres a few of the beetle painted and almost finished.

Thanks again to all who contributed on my earlier posts.

And finally, my first door repairs, the whole bottom of the doors were rotten. I cut out all the damage and welded new inner and outer panels.

jealous and curious

Looks great Catchawave I'm both jealous and curious; jealous because my restoration project has hardly gone forward in 10 years and it looks like this only took you a few months?? and curious to know more about the restoration.

For me, as a restoration novice with only a basic tool set, and about to start cutting out and patching for the first time (yikes!), it would be useful to know how you tackled the rusty bits that were not eliminated by new panels. What tools and materials did you use? Did you use a butt joint or lap joint when patching your panels or doing the doors? did you seam weld? how did you shape bits? did you burn holes at first, did it warp? did you grind the welds completely flat? tap them in? I have been pondering over all such things, so I hope you have some spare time to share your experiences.... best wishes!
