Hi Guys,
I'm as light steel fabricator usually mig weld box section / round bar.
I have a job coming up wich involves welding some 15mm base plate to some UC's so thought I would arc weld it as I don't have a 1.1mm roller for the mig.
Anyway, I got some 15mm thick offcuts to practice some fillet welds. The images below are 2.5mm 6013 at 110 amps, I'm thinking maybe I should go up to 3.2mm rods??
The problem I'm having is the slag looks terrible, but when removed and wire wheeled there doesn't seem to be any porosity. The images are of the same weld.
Any advice as to why the slag looks so poor, will affect the weld strength?
I planned on doing 3 passes to achieve a 6mm bead, will this be strong enough?
Thanks in advance!
