The insulation on the leads should be checked over before you start it up. For some reason farmers are very cavalier about insulation on electrics

For electricity to travel from point A to point B you just need a conductor.
Insulation is cosmetic frippery.
A good pair of crack free wellies has saved many a farmer. Don't ask how I know this.

With The leads on Engine drive welders insulation is never normally 100% in some places it chould be described as optional. It’s not like you don’t hold the hot bit anyway.

I get a few free sets of leads for the vantage by hiring it to a local outfit that insist on perfect leads, I mean “leads must be clean with no cuts or burns to the insulation on cable or connectors “ so they get new ones every time and I charge them for them. 1st time they complained bung there own spec back at them. They’ve come back with cuts and burns they were bought for you lot to use and you made them useless for that now

When you have so many belts that you feel physically sick you learn to check your leads over.
Of course it can be worse !
