5kg Spool in a Clarke 151en

Is anyone using a 5kg spool in a clarke 135, 151 or similar?
Or should I just stick with the mini spools?
Or perhaps rewind mini spools from a 5kg?

My 135 manages no problems with a 5kg, don't try transferring wire from one spool to another, without a proper tensioning and alignment jig it's too easy to get the tension varying and feed problems will follow.

We have a 5kg spool here waiting to go my sons 151en, tried it on for size when we got it and it fitted well

I think the 5 kg spools fit in all the Clarkes, I use one in my 160tm, & used to use one in my 100en no problems. I feel they run better if anything as they are wound better. Also they pull off smoother due to the greater diameter. This is only my opinion, probably wrong as usual.

Thanks all, I'll just use the 5kg as is then.
I was surprised how quickly I went through the mini reel.
A bit of practice, and the welding cart.
I'm probably putting down too much weld, but even so...

I had exactly this question too - I have just started out welding, and using a Clarke 135. On the recommendation of this forum I have bought a 5kg reel of Futuris from Jim Davey & its arrived today. Although it is 200mm in diameter, I was more worried about the weight of it, and whether the motor in the 135 would be up to the job of shifting all that mass of welding wire to feed it OK..but the question has been answered here and it should be OK.

it should be ok, just make sure the reel is free to rotate and then adjust the tension of the knob that holds the reels so that it just stops it rotating
