50 x 50 Aluminium offcut

Hi all,

Has anyone got a piece of 50 x 50 (ish) aluminium bar lying in their scrap bin that they'd let me have for the cost of postage and a beer?

I need a piece about 6" long to make up a clamping block for the galv pipework I'm about to try cutting threads on!

Perhaps consider (hard)wood lined with rubber, glued on with EvoStick. Bore wood to OD of pipe. Saw in half lengthways. Kerf of cut will allow it to close up.

Alternatively, maybe a ratchet strap with multiple wraps, like a capstan winch.

Make a round split collar and clamp it in your lathe chuck. The fully-enveloping grip will be a lot more than three line contacts from the jaws.

Can do 40

40 x 40 would work, but your avatar suggests you are in NZ. Now I know that it's apparently cheaper to ship butter 12,000 miles than to make it here but I think the shipping costs on that may be a little prohibitive!
