5 years NCB employed to private van Ins

I am wanting to get rid of the Berlingo that i was using and get a bit more room so looking at a Connect LWB HiTop Crew bus.

This means i need commercial insurance which isnt bad at £800 FC with zero NCB but with 5 years i have from my employed work doing around 90K per anum which sint bad if i say so myself, i can save over £300 on that £800 on Go Compare.

My TM said he will give me a letter head from him saying that i have not any claims in the 5 years i have been here.

Now does anybody know of any insurance companies that will take the 5 years NCB into account fro my Employer ?

If you go onto the comparison sites then you should be able to tick a box saying access to other vehicles and you might be able to put in years driving them there?

If you had a non-commercial policy before then the no-claims from that should be transferable over or you should get a discount equivalent to the amount of bonus you had.

I dont think a letter from an employer will help. If you were a named driver then they can get the details from the insurers database. If the work policy was just for any driver then for your letter to be any use you might have to find a company or broker that will take it into account but they are probably going to be more expensive than the cheaper insurers with zero no claims.

I have been asked to supply this info for some of the lads that work for me, I am pretty sure the vehicle has to be a designated for their use and not one of the pool vehicles ,they also have to be named on the vehicle records book as the driver.

I can't say for sure, but A Plan, the brokers I use, have always been helpful with this sort of thing. Like insuring another van but the NCB already being used on another policy.

I went GA, then now Admiral for private van insurance, I pay 500 quid for two 15 plate pickups. Both with buisness use.

I live in King's Lynn - I recall when Adrian Flux sat behind a desk himself in a rough shop selling house/motor insurance - down London Road in our town.

They now have a huge call centre just outside the town - so big they have tennis courts for the staff.

But... I still, have my house, motor trade and business risks covered by them (Adrian Flux).

Not sure if - I am on the "35 year local good customer list".

As I have tried to better their quotes online as they have gone up - but they always turn out to cheapest.

Ah well then thats put the mockers on that, the vehicles are insured for any company employee.

I am half happy as a year or so when i was looking for commercial it was nearer £1.5K not its don to £800, age thing init lol. 45 now wowzer.

I will call Adrian Flux, i have used them many years ago for my 4x4 off road vehicles and were near always the best.

Alos now looking i can get a Jumbo Iveco for a little more than a Connect, this way i can put a camper in half the back for long haul jobs down south. I do stay on the boats when able to but thats not always possible so the bigger van will come in.

I have 1 year from the Berligo. just hoped that the 5 years would of come through. I use the wifes car at weekends and work van i get to take home.

I prefer to use a broker, there's less chance of getting stiffed at renewal time. One of the reasons I don't use Flux any more. They've had their bite, and that's all they'll get from me. Partly my fault, I was extremely busy and didn't bother to do my own research.

A compliant letter from your company is normally accepted by some companies and they will accept it as proof of no-claims - but you need to talk to them. If you can get the letter to say you have been driving on company business using company vans, typical mileage etc and in particular if there was one van you used, or it was allocated to you. Even if you turn up each day and are assigned a van, provided it is regular use of a vehicle some companies will normally accept this.

I often write these letters for people and some brokers / insurers will accept them (but it is far from all) - do not bother trying through comparison sites as it does not let you specify you have a letter from your company.

If you are really lucky the company will 'launder' your no claims letter into a NCB come renewal time - Direct Line tend to do this (but can be hit and miss if they will accept an employers letter)
