5 core CY 0.75mm cable is a quid a metre on the bay of thieves. Seven quid postage though, that was the first I came to so probably cheaper with another seller.

CPC have a few choices (www.cpc.co.uk) 5m of 5 core mains cable part no CB17408 in black or CB17410 in white at £3.47, or 5 core YY 0.75mm2 by the metre part no CB17126. They also have screened CY cable 1mm2 again by the metre part no CB17093. Currently postage free for orders over £5, I find batteries are always good to make up the value to minimum postage.

You are too modest in the brevity of your post. This is 0.5mm2, 5 core, heat-resistant cable. It is 66p a metre. TLC have trade counters so you can even avoid the not-excessive delivery cost. Moreover, it describes a typical use (central heating) so shows a possible friend-in-the-trade source.

White would be a bonus for John and his viewers as it will give him a target to aim at when he drops something, with consequent entertainment value from the cursing.

On edit, try item number 162065101499 on eBay. 40p a metre on your doorstep.

The wire Murex used seemed to be just any old 5 core wire. It was pretty rigid when cold but worked OK, if you discount the
half a dozen repairs, for 20 years.

Sadly we're - I mean I'm - all out of that Van Damme stuff (wasn't it broadcast cable?)... the best I can do is a 6-core plus earth or a 4-core plus earth, neither is screened, both grey PVC sheathed.

Also sadly, we haven't been down your way in a while since our client in Reigate went udders-upwards in the big Caparo collapse. Sometimes wonder why we put so much effort into jobs...

I would be looking at audio/broadcast cable for this job. I had a look at all the 5 core offerings from rs/farnell in the power cable section and the smallest ho7 I could find was 0.75mm/sq... I'll continue looking in the audio cable section John.

If you are happy with the flexibility of PVC cable, the above would do nicely, sensible price too...

If you feel the need for screened cable (I would think it unnecessary on an analogue controlled footpedal) then the below cable would work:
