4x4 tyre recommendations

I can recommend Insa turbos, they last well and don’t fall apart, get an A/T tread and it’ll be great. I have a set of 37” maxxis creepy crawlers on the defender, well made, Just soft, but then again they’re rock crawling tyres. Always had maxxis on my r1 and couldn’t fault them really

BF goodrich. Or Goodyear MTRs. Amazing tyre life. Local lad had BF fitted to his L200 on purchase, he'd do 120k in 3yrs and sell it still with more tread than most new tyres.

Another vote for Big Friendly Giants. When I sold my L200 I'd put 30,000 miles on them and they were only 1/3 worn.

yet another vote for the BFGs. I've had AT's on both current disco and the previous - great tyres. very well mannered on the road, great in the snow and great off road.

If it's 99% towing and road work I wouldn't even bother with AT's, get some road tyres with open tread, or something like the crossclimates someone mentioned.

Just to throw it in the mix - Hankook. I ran BFG AT for years till the tyre man showed me the data and the hankook are the same. Ask in your tyre factor, they have a big chart which gives loads of parameters - rolling restistance, hardness, noise etc etc and it makes comparison a lot easier.

+1 for Hankook regards rolling resistance.

BFG ATs all day long - even if you are 99% on road. Great in the wet, excellent in the snow, not noisy and not a great impact on fuel efficiency vs 100% road treads. I wont have anything else on the 110. The last set did in excess of 100K miles before they needed changing and when the Beast from the East hit or I needed to drive across that muddy field they were excellent. I don't recommend anything else. I have Grabbers on the D3 and D2 because I cant get the sizes I want from BFG and they are fine but don't wear anywhere near as well.

Cooper at3s are good so are bfg allterains, have dullers on the dmax quite soft and wear quickly and rubbish side walls, had firestone Sat's on my series landy now there's an off road tyer. Have sahara insta turbos on the front ounce the firestones got too cracked, good tyers too copy of some old bfg design.

Cheers. Did you spot the (removable) side exit exhaust? That was the best bit - made a lovely burble

Mine was rock solid for the six years I owned it. Used to chew up fuel filters but, other than that, it was a very cheap truck to run. Inside was bigger than my previous 5 Series and very comfortable.

Thank you everyone for your advice and recommendations. I went with a pair of bridgestone duelers as they were £212 delivered. They look new but have been on a rim before so hopefully they will be ok.

If I wasn't getting the wheels refurbed I'd have gone with some BFG's or Grabbers but I just can't afford £600 on tyres and the refurb costs at the moment

Another vote for the Cooper AT3's as they were good on and off road, mine hit 100,000 miles so worth the spend if high mileage is your goal.
It came with Bridgestone Dueller fitted and they were like driving on ice and the edges wore terribly, glad to get them off.

Pretty impressive mileage for the Cooper AT3, worth bearing in mind

Suffice to say didn't make it through that one - mind you when a Land Cruiser on custom portals running 44" tyres doesn't make it through you know you're going to struggle.
