Can you use both types of aerial?

Not at the same time. You can use two or more Yagis in a phased array, but if you mix and match different aerials, it will give rise to all sorts of relections and cancellation effects. If the omni you have is doing its job, it's fine. Otherwise get it up higher in clear LOS for the maximum benefit. You can put the router just inside the roof space to avoid having to extend the input cables. The wireless signal may well be better then too. I have the Ethernet output of mine brought down into a cupboard where all my network distribution is, which then goes off to other wireless access points and a feed to the garage.

Some searching has located some polarisation diagrams for an identical looking model.

So going by those, it'll be getting screwed to the rafters upside down.

It should be an improvement over the existing antennas, which are having to be returned with the faulty 4G router.
I was hoping I could get away with just returning the stubby antennas that came with the lower spec router I swapped in it's place, but the supplier sent the list of everything they want returned, and it lists external antenna.

Fibre is finally getting installed in the area, so the 4G will hopefully be reduced to being a backup within the next month or so anyway.

Genuine question as I’ve never thought about it before. I’ve experienced Vertical and horizontal antennas but never thought of they had to be the right way up or not.

With a true dipole, the polar diagram should look like a doughnut, so it matters not. A different design of aerial can have whatever polar diagram is feasible, so it would be quite possible to have to be one way up. A quarter wave vertical is a case in point, it works by forming an image of itself in the ground plane. If it is upside down, you don't have one!

If you are interested in modelling antennas there is some software called MMANA-GAL that will do it. I think it is 'unsigned' so your PC will complain. I have used it but I understand some people are (quite rightly) cautious of such freeware.

Vertically and horizontally POLARISED aerials would maybe help to clarify it. Actually X and Y polarised but that is less clear still! Useful for satellite skew angles though.

I did have a Poynting XPOL on backorder which showed up today, so it's now fitted instead of the no brand Chinese one.
Cables were just long enough to get it up on a crossbeam a few metres away from the chimney.

Although it has improved the signal strength, speed on Vodafone hasn't improved (still sits consistently around 6Mbps), but it has on GiffGaff (gone from ~12Mbps to 15).
However GiffGaff still has horrendous latency (7-800ms), compared to Vodafone (~190ms)
