#4 thread (2.9) screws with fancy heads?

There's a desire at the moment with some people in my product field to use these sort of screws -

I cant find anything like them in the thread that i require, which is #4 (2.9).

Anyone got a source? Or indeed, for anything more than just dome cap (cant be countersunk) that might look nice (cosmetic choice only)

Apparently (see my other fairly recent thread on it) it's not 4-40 thread that I need (I know this as 4-40 binds) but actually #4 (2.9 dia).

The same thread as on self tappers...

Your recent thread was in the private forum, so rather difficult to find.

You are highly unlikely to find knurled screws with a self-tapping thread, and even if you did, you would need to grip like a Yorkshireman on his wallet to install them. Try winding a self-tapper into the ones you have not using a screwdriver.

The problem is the slide-on captive 'nut' fasteners you have are designed only for self-tapping screws. You need to find the same shape and style of captive fastener but with a 4-40 UNC thread. The concept exists as there is a picture of one in that thread. They are used a lot on motorbike fairings, when they have a metric screw going into them. If you search under 'spire clip' and 'chimney nut', you will see the difference but the terminology is not used consistently and I was unable to locate any imperial threaded ones (everything I found was metric).

As you are looking for an imperial thread on a metric continent, your best bet is to look over the pond at McMaster, Grainger, etc. to find out the proper name of them and who manufactures them. You can them see if they have a UK stockist.

P.S. the ones in your photo above appear to be left hand thread.

I don't actually care what thread the clip uses, the only thing important to me is the physical size of the clip.

If I can buy an alternative clip with a different thread then I would happily use those.

The company that makes the clips that I've got also does screws - they do one with that thread but without the point. So the screw, in this case, does not cut the thread, and, indeed, I can wind one in by hand with even the small head.

Again I'm not fussed on the clips used, just they have to be small enough for the application.
