4.5" diamond disc

I've got a couple of dozen bricks to cut at a 45° angle, so I'm shopping for a diamond disc for the angry grinder.

These are *tough* bricks - South Leeds ironstone clay - not the halfsawdust "london brick" that i could cut with a butter knife.

Toolstation or screwfix are my merchant of choice - anything to avoid?
My usual method is brick hammer + bolster chisel - that is out as it needs to be a reasonably tidy cut.

i use the big 9" grinder for mine bigegg

as it gives a better cut than the 4.5 discs

but if you do cut the face first and angle it afterwards

them bricks not as hard as birkbys

I just get cheap ones from Lidl or Fleabay, 10 discs for a tenner for the last lot. All worked well and had a pretty good life span, the main issue with the cheap ones is the metal wears under the diamond matrix

Ervauer from screwfix ain’t to bad for £5.99. I’m sure there’s better out there but for a small bit of cutting they’ll last fine.

I'll second the erbauer discs for decent for the money, but you won't make it through a brick clean with 115, so you will still end up snapping them or having to take two bites.
You might consider if you can justify one of the evolution 305mm disc cutters. Will make light work if you have a few to do, and dead handy for bigger jobs.

Top tip either way you go - either enlist an unwilling volunteer or rig up a stand to hold a leaf blower - will make a massive difference to the dust situation.

I went with the erbauer 230mm in the end.

I have a bouncy castle blower which caters to my dust extraction needs.

I bought a norton continuos diamond blade, does lovely job on face brick work.

Funnily enough, i've just cut a couple of bricks.
I used the hose pipe to just dribble a little bit into the cut.
Only cos the neighbours have their washing out -
and i'm not petty enough to seek revenge for the three days of green hedge burning they did last week.

I agree water is the correct method for dust suppression if you are doing it professionally and using a petrol cutter, but the evolution cutters (or an angle grinder for that matter) are electric, so it isn't the best idea to mix them with water.
If you can keep it wetted down just enough without causing a slurry that's great, but I found it tends to just make a very sticky mess.

The evolution disc cutter does have a vacuum port but it really doesn't do much and clogs up your hoover in short order.
I found the leaf blower works great for keeping the dust out of the machine and my face - I wouldn't advise it for an area where other people are around as isn't too friendly for people down wind, but it works great for my situation and the entire set up cost less than it would to rent a petrol for one job, so I really can’t complain.

I don't worry about it, just lay the hose on the concrete aimed at the wheel, it makes a hell of a mess but doesn't seem to spray anywhere near the motor.
