simply moving it over to the other end will not reverse it
it will still run the same way 
if its running the wrong way u would need to offset the motor and turn it as it will only run one way

no and if u ran the pump backwards there may be an oil pickup inside used for the splash feed and may not work reversed

Think that you will find that all small engines, Briggs, Honda, Kohler, Loncin etc run the same way - anti-clockwise when viewed from the power take off end. Did once have a vintage French Bernard that ran clockwise at the PTO. Very odd cranking it anti-clockwise though!

may find you need a bigger engine anyway. i'vw done simalar to reduce my leccy requirements as supply is an issue for me.
i used a GX390 tend to find small petrol enignes the power they are rated at is not at 100% duity. seems to be quite far from it in fact. i swaped in a 10 hp petrol instead of a 7 hp motor on the last attempt and it really didn't like it. when i put the IR temp gun on the enigne when it was working that it was getting really hot ( sump temps hence oil temps were getting close to 200 degrees C ) that engine died shortly after. the other issue is how enignes deliver there torque compared to electric motor.
saying often goes for electric motors " all the torque at 0" singel phase inductin motors dont have overly inpressive stall torques but they still beat an enigne.
the biggest challeng for an enigne thats coupleled by permant drive to a compressor is accselorating the huge inertia and load from the pump up from cranking rpm to an operational idel or working rpm. two ways to solve this is ether a centrifugal clutch so the engine can get running then use the clutches slip to allow it to run at working rpm while the compressor drags up to speed. or use a bigger engine that can make enough torque to drag the compressor and itself upto working speed from cranking speed.
there is also some tweeking to do with the control as it's a pain to cut the enign everytime the tank hits presure and oisey and wastefull to vent air all the time.
ive used some pnumatic bits to make a rough control system. i've fitted the butterfly out of a small carberattor to the intake of the pump that is controlled by a pnumatic ram, as is the enignes throttel. useign a crude controll system useing controll valves coupe of old pressure regs and blow off valves i got a crude air operated controll riged up
basicly at low pressure the engine runs full speed and the compressor is on open throttel. when the tank gets to 135 psi the enigne drops back to a fast idel ( lowest speed it can carry the pump at) and the compressor's throttel shuts. throttels open back up when it drops down to 110 ish. if the tank pressure reaches 150 psi 2nd pressure valve cuts the engines ignition.
