i agree that 110V is best (as does the regs) But they no longer prohibit 240V from site etc RCD must be at source e.g. socket or plug. Not sure where the plug in adaptors stand but wired in ones should be fine. The requirements for testing are the same as for the fixed wireing (3 months for site longer for factors etc). Most if not all the plug ones are active units so trip under power failer

Hello MK,

thanks for that, having worked for many years as a maintenance electrician in factories etc. I never remember any testing of installed installations, but I would have thought that similar documented checks (as for Pat testing) would be needed for RCD supplied circuits?

the EAWR 89 regs state that all installations must be inspected on a frequancy of not more than recommended by BS7671 many don't but are leaving the liability gate open! The min test is the push button check it trips every month but proper testing needs a tester
