Ahh, the whole lathe was only in fair condition when I bought it, some teeth broken on back gears, sliding gear in headstock bolted to drive pulley etc. After some temporary repairs I had the back gear working with the lever in that position. Since then I bought some parts off another lathe and all is well, lever now correct.Your back gear lever is in a strange position
