3mm sheet steel

Does anyone know if/where I can get hold of 3mm sheet steel bigger than 8x4ft?

I have a job to price up supplying and fitting covers on a huge conveyor in a recycling factory and some of the sizes are over the common 8x4ft. I could always weld pieces together but its a new customer who wants rough prices before I actually meet him (He has given me sizes of each panel to work from) and dont want to assume that he will be happy with that.

I've never had a problem getting it in from any steel stockholder....3000x1500, 4000x2000 etc - they are standard sheet sizes in 3mm
Oddball sizes can be cut to size off a coil if there is enough to warrant it.

I'm fairly sure Welderpaul gets sheets bigger than 8x4 but he doesn't work in 3mm tin . Sure he will be along

4m x 2m hot rolled should be pretty easy to get hold of from any larger stock holder near you, or 3m x 1.5 may be easier from smaller places.
Don't know what you have round there, but ASD in Blackburn will probably do 4x2s

As Paul said, you may be able to get it decoiled nearer to the sizes you need, but only if theres a substantial amount, talking tonnes there to make it worth while.

I mainly deal with Brundles and as I only got the job to price on Friday I havnt had chance to ask them if they do bigger than 8x4, and their website only advertises 2x1m and 8x4ft sheets. Where do you go for your larger sheets Paul? I need 13 3m x 1.5m x 3mm

Brundles are expensive. Use a proper steel stockholder, you will save a lot of money. I would be fairly certain Brundles won't stock 3x1.5's and can't be bothered getting them in.

We generally use Steel Supplies in Doncaster. Doubt they will deliver to Manchester though. 13 3 x 1.5 is not a bad order, any decent stockholder will have that in.

How much do they charge for a 2 x 1 out of interest?

I think it was about £30 plus vat. I use them because they are so close and usually have what I need in all the time. Ive used others but had to wait a day or so when ive needed it that day for a rush job. I have just however seen that K Steels in Rossendale stock it. I need 72 sheets in total as its a big job but if the customer wants to I can them weld off cuts from some sheets to make others but as it is a manufacturer of equipment I cant se him wanting that

Nah, I'd avoid welding sheets together - last resort that and costs too much in time and the job looks poor.
You will be able to get them decoiled if there are 72 sheets i would have thought - much more economical if they don't work near to a standard sheet size.
You've a bit of buying power waving an order round for 72 sheets of 3mm. A specialist plate supplier would talk to you for that quantity.

Their not all 3x1.5. 45 of them are 2x1, 14 are 8x4 and the 13 at 3x1.5 but still, its a big order. I am meeting the MD of the manufacturer tomorrow so things should be a bit more clearer then. Most of the plates are to be fixed in place but some are to made 'slidable' to gain access to a conveyor belt.
