3D Scanning

There was a program the other week about the Hornby/Airfix designers. They were making a model of a Lamborghini Countach. Employed a firm to do it. A couple of technicians rocked up with hand held scanners. No messing around keeping it a certain distance.

Laser scanner at work 3 weeks ago in St. Malo. They were filming a four-part series for Netflix of Anthony Doerr's novel "All the light we cannot see."
This filming of fighting on the beach and the street. No doubt creating a CGI image for editing.

Retrorides seem to do quite a bit of 3D scanning, looks like they use a Peel 3D scanner

I do a fair bit of reverse engineering as a sideline so thought I'd invest in a 'hobby' 3D scanner. I'm pretty impressed with the results so thought I'd share...

Here's the subject, its the 'A' post region of a Triumph GT6 - same as a Triumph Spitfire and similar to the Hreald/Vitesse. The door hinges bolt to the triangular bolt patterns...

What's amazing is the level of detail - this view shows the spot weld depressions well...
