My 14 year old grandson is getting a 3D printer for Xmas & to ensure it’s working correctly he’s been allowed a trial run, so far he’s printed a model pig & cat using software that came with the printer. I am pleasantly surprised the surface finish is much better than I anticipated.
The next question is how to use it to produce something useful.
Reading on the internet, programs like Google sketchup can be used to design a component & mention is made of slicer programs like Cura needing to be used before feeding the instructions into the 3D printer.
Can anybody explain the process, programs involved & how to get from drawing to finished product. I do have some knowledge of Autocad & engineering drawing in general.
